Stocks end moderately higher; retailers climb – MarketWatch

Stocks ended higher Wednesday, shaking off geopolitical worries and rising bond yields as retailers gained ground following strong earnings from Macy’s Inc. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.41% finished 0.4% higher, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.25% advanced around 62 points, or 0.3%, according to preliminary figures. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.63% rose 0.6%. The small-cap Russell 2000 RUT, +1.00% was on track for a record close, with a 0.6% rise. Shares of Macy’s M, +10.83% rose more than 10% to lead S&P 500 gainers after the retailer reported strong earnings and boosted its outlook for fiscal 2018. Other retailers were also strong performers, including Target Corp. TGT, +2.94% which rose nearly 3%.
