“I think a lot of people are afraid to even fly or get a flag because they feel like, ‘how do I dispose of it?’ That’s where I feel like the need (for this) is very convenient.”

Shaw and members of American Legion Post 214 ceremoniously unveiled the new box Sunday afternoon.

American Legion Post 214 will collect flags dropped in the box and properly retire each one.

“This flag means a great deal to us, and when we get ready to retire a flag, we want the flag to be retired with dignity and respect,” said Post 214 Commander Bob Davis.

Members of American Legion Post 214 were the first to drop flags in the box Sunday.
