The spokesperson for former President Donald Trump has denied a new claim that he praised Adolf Hitler at one point during his presidency.

Trump, according to Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender’s new book, Frankly, We Did Win This Election, told his then-chief of staff John Kelly on a visit to Europe to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the WWI, “Well, Hitler did a lot of good things,” which reportedly left the retired U.S. Marine Corps general stunned, however, Liz Harrington called the claim “totally false.”

“The report from the Michael Bender book is totally false,” she told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday. “President Trump never said this. It was probably made up by an incompetent general who was fired.”

Bender, in his book set to be released next week, reported that Trump made the comment during a conversation with Kelly in which he “reminded the president which countries were on which side during the conflict” and “connected the dots from the first world war to the second world war and all of Hitler’s atrocities.”

Bender also claimed Trump denied making the comment though he stands by his reporting. He added that Kelly “told the president he was wrong, but Trump was undeterred,” specifically referencing Germany’s economic bounce back in the 1930s.

“Kelly pushed back again and argued that the German people would have been better off poor than subjected to the Nazi genocide,” Bender wrote, adding that Kelly told Trump, “You cannot ever say anything supportive of Adolf Hitler. You just can’t.”

Following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, in which thousands of Trump supporters swarmed the building with the hope of stopping Congress from certifying the election results for Joe Biden, Kelly said he would support using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

Given their public falling out, Harrington alleged Kelly could’ve been the source behind the anecdote she said is fake.
