SGX Nifty signals a positive start

Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 79.5 points, or 0.51 per cent, higher at 15,644, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for a positive start on Friday.

Oil prices rise on tight supply, inventory uncertainty

Oil prices rose slightly in early Asian trade on Friday as nations seek to address global crude oil and fuel supply tightness. Brent crude futures rose 39 cents, or 0.4%, to $110.44 a barrel at 0012 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 37 cents, or 0.4%, to $104.31 a barrel.

Tokyo shares open flat in cautious trade

Tokyo’s key Nikkei index opened flat on Friday in cautious trade after Wall Street rallies, as investors weighed global inflation and recession risks. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.04 percent, or 11.14 points, at 26,182.39 in early trade after floating between positive and negative territory, while the broader Topix index was down 0.22 percent, or 4.05 points, at 1,847.69.

US stocks climb as yields fall to two-week low

Stocks in global markets rose on Thursday as U.S. Treasury yields fell to two-week lows, while copper was at 16-month lows as investors worried about a possible global economic slowdown. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 194.23 points, or 0.64%, to 30,677.36, the S&P 500 gained 35.84 points, or 0.95%, to 3,795.73 and the Nasdaq Composite added 179.11 points, or 1.62%, to 11,232.19.

Rupee closes at 78.32 against dollar

The rupee on Thursday closed at its all-time low of 78.32 against the US dollar as strong American currency and persistent foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiments. The local currency opened at 78.26 and finally settled at its all-time low 78.32, unchanged from its previous close.

Sensex, Nifty on Thursday

Dalal Street bulls managed to gain most of the ground lost on Wednesday as the Sensex ended over 400 points higher and Nifty settled past the 15,550 mark.
